The habit of proper meal planning is a lifesaver when it comes to eating well and staying healthy. And for anyone trying to lose a bit of weight, it is one of the best things you can do to help yourself achieve your goal.

I know it can sound daunting if it's not something you normally do. But believe please me, it really is not hard at all. The time and worry meal planning saves in the long run makes it more than worth the 20 or 30 minutes it might take you to do it a week. Imagine walking into a shop and knowing exactly what you are going to buy and then opening your fridge and cupboards for the next few days having decided ahead what you're going to be making for dinner that night. And even better, knowing ALL the ingredients you need are there!


It can be really hard to eat healthily, let alone lose weight, if you are eating on the hoof or throwing last minute meals together. What I say to my clients is that:


'You are what is in your shopping trolley'



HOW TO MEAL PLAN IN TWO SIMPLE STEPS:

  1. Decide what kind of shopper you are or you want to be. Would it suit you to do a big shop once a week with a small top up fruit and veg shop mid way through. Or do you want to shop twice a week or every other day? After you decide this, write down what meals you want to eat for the days between your shops.

  2. Write down the ingredients that you need to make these meals on an organised shopping list and off you go. I organise my lists to fit with the shopping aisle of most supermarkets. They tend to start with fresh fruit and vegetable aisles and move onto the refrigerated aisles and so on.
